About

For over 25 years, Karl has designed, built, and enhanced the spaces where people live and work. He got his start in the commercial arena, but quickly realized that his passion was renovating homes. After receiving a California contractor license in San Diego, Karl started Klein Construction in 1988. He spent the following 14 years focusing on residential remodeling. During that period he honed his skills in both design and carpentry. Karl’s theory has always been to create space that blended structure, and site.
Upon moving to Vermont in 2002, Karl spent 3 years as an innkeeper, and renovated the barn and grounds of The 1824 House Inn in Waitsfield; following a sale of the property in 2007 he started KleinWorks.
Since that time, KleinWorks has expanded the scope of the craft to include the building of custom cabinets and furniture. In this, Karl has found a new love for the art of woodworking. While still enjoying the process from concept to completion of any renovation project, it is this new found love of fine handcrafted work that inspires him. No detail is missed, and each piece of wood is lovingly handled numerous times- starting as rough lumber and ending as a finely crafted bed, cabinet, table, or built-in.
